Now, more than ever, children and teenagers need to learn to manage themselves in an increasingly fast world, to find the breath and calm the mind. On the yogamat they get the opportunity to meet themselves, just as amazing as they are, without performance and demands. Both children and parents are contacting us about these courses, testifying to the benefits that arise from a yoga practice.

Children's yoga is different from adult yoga, which is natural because children are children and not mini-adults. Play and joy are important. Showing children that yoga can be both pleasant and pleasurable while making them feel good both physically and mentally and emotionally. That every child and teenager has space to feel safe and is inspired to express their unique potential. We want to give children a positive experience of yoga's fantastic tools early on so that they can naturally use them in their everyday lives. In our groups, both boys and girls go together.

 

FROM CHILDREN TO TEENAGERS

As children grow and become "tweenies" and then teenagers, we adapt the yoga and the level of mental exercises. The philosophy of yoga is woven into the classes that include movement (asana), meditation, breathing exercises and relaxation. We look at our thought patterns, get to know the "inner critic", and learn to observe and put into words our feelings, thoughts and needs. In this way, we become less reactive and can more easily understand ourselves and our surroundings. Something that many teenagers and parents contact us and thank yoga for.

The groups we offer are:

 

CHILDREN'S YOGA 6–9 YEARS:  FRIDAYS 3:00 PM–3:50 PM

CHILDREN'S YOGA 10–12 YEARS: FRIDAYS 4:00 PM–4:50 PM

TEEN YOGA FROM 13 YEARS AND UP: FRIDAYS 5:00 PM–5:50 PM

 

Children's yoga 6-9 years In a playful way, children get valuable tools to manage stress and other stresses in their everyday lives. We explore presence and ourselves through play, breathing, movement and relaxation. We talk about the philosophy of yoga, self-compassion and being a good friend to yourself and others.

Children's yoga 10–12 years. Or should we call it tweenie yoga? This age between children and teenagers. We have chosen to give this age its own group, because you are not really a child, but not as big as teenagers either. Here we practice self-compassion, positive body image and relaxation. it may be needed in that middle age in middle school.

Teen yoga from 13 years old is about the time between childhood and adolescence, about the body, being a good friend, self-image and self-compassion. We look at our thought patterns, get to know the "inner critic", and learn to observe and put into words our feelings, thoughts and needs. We also go a little deeper into yoga asanas, practicing a little more independently like an adult open class.

TEACHER for all groups is Heléne Portnoff, a trained children's and teenage yoga teacher who, in addition to yoga, works as a study and career counselor, coach and athletics trainer for children. As a teacher of children's and teenage yoga, she is extra passionate about contributing to the joy of movement, increased body awareness and self-esteem, and creating a safe space where every child can feel that they are capable just as they are.
